Harrington II

Harrington on Hold'em, part II

The Endgame by Dan Harrington & Bill Robertie

This is the second volume of the Harrington on Hold'em trilogy.

Harrington's books are widely viewed as THE definitive work on No Limit Tournament Poker.
The book is also very informative and interesting to people who don't play tournaments. The series is very well written and laced with plenty of examples, making it very understandable to beginning players.

In this second volume of the series, Harrington takes a closer look on the later stages of the tournament, when blinds are high and people are under more pressure in anticipation of a possible victory. The game that should be played then, differs from the earlier stages of the tournament.

Harrington starts with a big part of the book on bluffing and its counter play, slow playing.
Every style of play is individually discussed, because the effect can differ greatly.
Obviously the squeeze play is discussed in detail too.

The most important part of the book comes next and can be a true revelation to those players unfamiliar with the concept. Harrington explains M (the connection between the height of the blinds and the game). The different zones and how to adjust your game play to them, will make whether you will go home with nothing or win the tournament.

After this, Harrington examines playing shorthand tables and “heads up”.
Playing qualification-tournaments is also looked at.

Without any doubt this is the most important poker tournament book ever written.

Overall, we give the book a 9 out of 10.
